My Story

After growing up in a small Australian coastal town, I studied mathematics and physics at university before founding several successful businesses in a variety of fields. Having never held a proper job, I consider myself uniquely unemployable!

Sport has been a constant companion, where I have played tennis at a high level, a scratch golfer and an experienced surfer, angler, and hiker. I also volunteer considerable time to sport, primarily because I believe it is good for body and soul, helping bring people together to bridge diversity.

Covid, and the curtailment of everything, saw time to kill. My fixation on writing novels caught me by surprise. I find it exhilarating to disappear with my characters into imagined scenes, building a maze for my readers to discover. My family call me the blue heeler, the dog who needs constant activity lest he drive everyone crazy. I can be like that, obsessively focussed on the task at hand.

I hope my novels elevate Australian culture, with an optimistic and often humorous portrayal of life in regional and coastal towns. When I needed a hero, Ange came naturally, an amalgam of friends and people who I admire. I hope you like Ange as much as I like my friends.

A love of travel and being cast adrift in foreign or remote locations is a constant source of inspiration. I like to challenge the reader on topical issues and current events to help give a sense of Australia—with some drama thrown in to make life interesting.

I currently live in Brisbane with my remarkable wife, old cars, and sporting equipment. Now that our three wonderful children have largely flown the coop, I remain perplexed at where that time went.
